Check out David Weismann interview with NY Mets pitcher Mike Pelfy

Q: Who was your favorite baseball player when you were a kid?
A: Someone on the Braves, like Tom Glavine or Greg Maddux. In the Midwest, the only baseball channels were WGS and TBS (the home channel of the Braves).

Q: Is there any player that you look up to now?
A: Some of the older guys on the team like Johan Santana; Tom Glavine last year; and, Billy Wagner-- guys who have been around for a while and have been successful.

Q: Have the veteran players on your team helped you, being a younger pitcher, a lot?
A: Yes. Any time that you have the chance to pick the brain of a future Hall of Famer is amazing opportunity. They are full of knowldege and very willing to help.

Q: If you could pitch to any one catcher in the history of Major League Baseball, who would it be and why?
A:  The one catcher would be Charlie O'Brien because he played at Wichita State and he was very, very good. I think he holds the record for catching the most pitchers who have won the Cy Young Award.

Q: Has there been any one hitter that you have found particularly hard to get out?
A: None of them are easy to get out, but I would have to say Chipper Jones.

Q: How tough was it to keep moving from the Minors to the Majors earlier in your career?
A: It’s tough. The hardest thing is the travel. Sometimes the hotels you stay in aren’t great; you just don’t get that first class treatment like you do in New York.

Q: Rick Peterson is known as one of the best pitching coaches in the League, but you and some of the other guys on the pitching staff have turned it on after he left. What does Dan Warthen do differently?
A: Dan Warthen isn’t necessarily all about statistics like Rick Peterson was. Dan Warthen is very good at knowing what you are good at and making the most out of it instead of trying to make everyone the same.

Q: You really reflected your team this year, as you suffered from a little bit of inconsistency early in the year but rebounded and pitched lights-out in the second half. Was there any specific change in mindset that you went through that helped you get back on track?
A: Yes, I got a lot more confident. I didn’t feel like I had to be perfect when I am out there pitching like I felt before. I was falling behind guys, walking guys and putting myself in trouble.

Q: Do you collect any memorabilia?
A: I used to collect baseball cards. I know a lot of the guys collect baseballs from other guys around the League. Baseballs are good-- they are something I will start collecting.

Q: What is your favorite ice cream flavor?
A: Chocolate.
