Q. Who was the toughest fighter you ever faced?

A. My wives. Sugar Ray Robinson.

Q. What was it like to fight and beat Sugar Ray Robinson?

A. It was a great honor because he is the greatest fighter, pound for pound, that ever lived. Also, he was the best man at my wedding.

Q. What do you think about boxing today?

A. It is a lot different from what it used to be. The boxers fall out too easily. I've never seen as many heads hit the canvas in my life as I've been seeing lately. I don’t know what the reason for it is. They are in pretty good shape and train really hard, but they, in my opinion, they are not as tough. They fight 20 or 30 fights and their career is over. In my day, there were a lot of guys who had over 100 fights. Willie Pep and Archie Moore had over 200 fights. Today they get 10 or 20 fights and they are finished.

Q. How did you feel about Robert De Niro playing you in "Raging Bull"?

A. Well, I'm not the type to play myself in a movie. They were thinking of using Sammy Davis, Jr. instead, but he couldn’t do it.

Q. What is your favorite ice cream flavor?

A. Vanilla.
